Every thinking American understands that we have to start living within our means. Or at least a lot closer to our means. However, Republicans complaining about the current administration running up the debt is truly cynical. Where was all this fiscal concern when President Bush and his gang were running it up to insane proportions? They clearly talk out of both sides of their collective mouths. And if President Obama had not inherited not one but two ongoing wars, the Bush tax cuts, and the Bush-sponsored Medicare Part D drug benefit costs, it would have been a heck of a lot simpler to get the budget back under control. The Republicans, Rush, and Fox News really seem to think that Americans have memory problems. We are well aware of where the lion's share of the debt came from, although some partisans won't admit it. Those are the same partisans who tried to tell us that Sarah Palin was well qualified to be President.
President Clinton and President Obama both mentioned that Mitt Romney's budget plan calls for 3 trillion dollars more in military spending over the next decade than the Pentagon has even requested and that Mitt hasn't indicated what he wants to use all that money for. So if you want to know why we are bleeding red ink, look to the Republican war mongers. If you manage to get Mitt elected, forget about cutting down the national debt. Mitt will just give it all away in tax cuts and blow it on miltary spending that we don't need, even if he and his neo-con buddies can't manage to gin up any new wars. Meanwhile, your mother won't be able to buy groceries after they screw up Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
I think it is clear that we have an overblown military that needs to be seriously cut back. I spent four years in the military and I have seen the waste of money first hand. I was a passenger on a couple of general's planes that were fit for a Maharaja. We currently spend more for "defense" than most of the rest of the world COMBINED. And there is really no country out there that seems to pose any current, realistic military threat. Mitt is nominating Russia. The Russians don't seem to pose any threat to our security, they can barely govern their own country. They haven't bothered anybody in 20 years. China is much more interested in selling us stuff than acquiring territory. Iran? Seriously?
So if you vote for Mitt and Ryan get ready for more wars and more outlandish military spending. Really, these guys would rather pore money down a hole in some mid-Eastern country than spend it on needy Americans.
